Your Travel: Travel insurance is highly recommended. Most major airlines fly daily to Santiago. We like Delta or American Airlines (to Santiago) and Lan Chile to reach our final destination in Balmaceda, Chile. Most flights to Santiago leave the United States in the evening and arrive at an early hour in Santiago, Chile. Once there, you receive your luggage and pass through customs and enter the airport to continue to your prescribed gate to catch a carrier jet to Balmaceda. Basically, you will be traveling south along the Andean Mountain Range, and a seat on the left “asiento a la izquierda” is preferred, although a seat on the right of the aircraft “asiento a la derecho” puts you in perfect view of the braided Chilean coastline. In any case, the folks at Lan Chile speak perfect English, and assist you in Santiago in connecting your flight arrangements to your final destination in Balmaceda.

Upon arrival in Balmaceda, you load a Lan Chile shuttle van that takes you from the airport to their main office in the city of Coyhaique. This is where we meet you and transport you to the lodge to fish and explore for the following week! The itinerary is simple and uncomplicated, and we love how easy it is to enter the country, reach your final destination, and connect with us, without a hitch! If you are arriving from a destination outside of the U.S., let us know, and we will be happy to recommend the arrangements necessary for you to pick-up the correct flight into Balmaceda.

Documents required: Fortunately, Chile does not require a visa or any unique travel documents other than a valid passport. You should have an up-to-date U.S. Passport and be ready to present it upon arrival in the country. When you arrive in Chile, you land in the capital of Santiago. Before entering customs, you are responsible for presenting a valid passport and pay a fee of $100.00 (US currency) to the country of Chile to validate your stay. This fee is good for the remainder of your stay, as well as any future visits under the same passport (note: All U.S. passports are valid for 10 years, and must be valid for at least six months beyond your stay in Chile). This fee is not included in our rates, but offers you the opportunity to return for future visits to Chile with this same validation.

When traveling internationally it is always good policy to buy travel insurance!
